Day 1 of 40

Financial Stewardship

Isaiah 55:6-11

6Turn to the Lord and pray to him,

now that he is near.

7Let the wicked leave their way of life

and change their way of thinking.

Let them turn to the Lord, our God;

he is merciful and quick to forgive.

8“My thoughts,” says the Lord, “are not like yours,

and my ways are different from yours.

9As high as the heavens are above the earth,

so high are my ways and thoughts above yours.

10 “My word is like the snow and the rain

that come down from the sky to water the earth.

They make the crops grow

and provide seed for planting and food to eat.

11So also will be the word that I speak—

it will not fail to do what I plan for it;

it will do everything I send it to do.

PRAY: God, connect with me here, as I seek you in your Word.

Imagine conversing with God as you read today’s passage… “Who, me? ‘Crooked ways and evil thoughts’? I think I deserve at least a B+ for honest money management. I don’t rob banks or steal or cheat or swindle or... “What’s that in verse 9? Am I thinking in my ways instead of your ways? Well, of course; I’m only human. How could I do it any differently? “Your words are really that powerful? Not returning without doing everything you send them to do? I’ll check out what you have to say about money.”

REFLECT: Most people leave God out of their finances as though he doesn’t have anything of value to say about them. Have you done that?

RESPOND: Open your heart to what God wants to teach you about handling money—way different and way better than you could ever figure out on your own.

Lord, I want to turn to you, the one who made it all. Thank you for being merciful and for forgiving my sins. Help me to surrender to you in every part of my life.

Getting the most from God's Word

As you embark on this Journey, here are four steps to invite God's Word to challenge and encourage you.

  1. Pray

    Pray with focus and openness to see what God has for you. God, connect with me here, as I seek You in your Word.

  2. Read

    Read the selected section of scripture slowly. Take note of intriguing words and phrases. Read them a second time.

  3. Reflect

    Reflect on what strikes you as you read. What does this passage of Scripture teach you about God's values?

  4. Respond

    Respond to the passage. Speak to God directly about what's on your mind and hear. Look for ways to live out what you've uncovered.
